This is a couple of honey supers that a friend was getting rid of, he no longer wanted them so he offered them to me. At this stage I cannot refuse any supplies that are coming my way, all frames have drawn out comb and I placed them on a pallet in the bee yard. They will clean up any left overs then I will put them on some of the hives

Front of pollen trap, the eye bolt tightens and the board in front can slide up to activate the trap or slide down and the trap doesn't collect any pollen.

So as promised here are some pictures of the pollen traps, collection is going nicely. One hive is bringing in lots and I just moved the other trap to a new hive and its starting to produce now. It takes approx. a week for the bees to figure out the trap, above is the front view of the trap.

There was a great sale on sugar, so my friend and I went splits on the whole pallet. 600 bags of sugar this should do us a while. Fall feeding will be coming soon enough and it was hard to turn down a BOGO on sugar.

Swarm catching day

6/8/2012

Today was an eventful day, this afternoon it was very warm. It was 20 Celsius and sunny, I drove around some of the blueberry fields today. There are approximately 2500+ hives within a 5 minute drive from my place, they are pollinating blueberries. I have been watching them and some of them were overflowing with bees, so I placed a swarm box on the opposite side of the road and crossed my fingers.
I checked the swarm box this evening and BINGO, a wonderful hive was all over the box. I left it and went back home to gather my equipment to transfer the swarm. They were put into a hive and I placed the swarm box back to the capture location. With all the excitement I did not take any pictures, I will get some of the new hive tomorrow. Just like the saying " One persons loss is another persons gain" I can't wait to check tomorrow and see what is around tomorrow.

Here are some early morning pictures of I believe a cherry tree but I am not completely sure, I will have to ask Steph MacDonald to be positive. If anyone is looking for help with their yard design or flower arrangements for a wedding you can't go wrong with Steph. (small plug for a friend)  Stephanie MacDonald

Egg kinda day

So today I took a couple of pictures of the girls and some eggs with larva, eggs are much easier to see when the sun is out. I haven't seen much pollen coming back but there seems to be lots in the comb, in about a week all the brood should be capped and they will start drawing out more comb on the new foundation. Some of the new foundation that I put in is being worked but not much. I will post pictures of that later, so as promised here is some pictures of brood
